Bus Tour - «Castles of Sigulda»
One of the greatest Latvian poet Ojars Vacietis wrote that the God was in love when he created the river Gauja!
At any season of the year: when the golden leaves are falling, in the snowy silence of winter and in the summer Sigulda is always waiting for you!
The „Gauja National park” is most visitedtouristic place in Latvia. For its picturesquare banks of the Gauja river, ancient castles and caves this places are known as the „Switzerland of Latvia” since the very beginning of the 18th century.
The Sigulda region is situated in some 50km east of Riga. Duration of the tour is 5-6 hours. During the tour you will listen interesting personal audio guide commentaries in English and other languages.
Our first stop (40minutes) by the route is at the “New Sigulda Castle” that was built in the 19th century, the former manor of Duke Kropotkin, Vice governor of Livonia and the founder of Sigulda.
Nearby are the well –preserved and partly restored ruins of the Old Castle of the Livonian Crusader Order (13th century).
After short stop at the Old Castle of the Livonian Crusader Order we are driving down to the bank of the Gauja river to the “Gutman’s cave” (sightseeing for 20 minutes). The cave is associated with legendary romantic tragic story “Turaida Rose”.
Our Next main stop in the Turaida is «The Turaida Museum Reserve” –Turaida Castle (13th century). The castle belonged to the Archbishop of Riga. Time of the walk at the Museum Reserve is about 1-1.5 hours.
Then, after old castles visits, the bus will go to the Krimulda – the mystic place of ancient Livs.
We will see the church of Krimulda, which is 800 years old, and will walk all the way through the labyrinth“Lily”. of self discovery.
Our excursion ends at the Ragana – “The yard of the Witch”. Make beautiful photos and have a national Latvian dinner with fresh Latvian beer!
